As WhatsApp tests new feature for Groups, here are 9 tricks you must know


Facebook-owned WhatsApp is testing a new feature in Group chats that may alter the very dynamics of a Group. The alleged upcoming feature gives group administrators more powers where they will be able to restrict all other members from sending text messages, photographs, videos, GIFs, documents and voice messages. Once restricted, other members will have to settle with only reading messages, and will not be able to respond.


  • see when a member read your messages 
you can check when others read your message in a Group. Just go to any of your chats in your WhatsApp Groups, tap and hold on any of the messages you have sent by you and click on Info, this will reveal the time you message was read by each person in the group.


  • Transfer Whatsapp Group Admin 
Want to exit a group you are admin of, but don't want to delete it? You have the option to do so. Just go the list of participants in that group and click on the member you want to make admin by choosing 'Make Group Admin' option.



  • Delete a message sent on the Group chat 
Yes, not only individual chats you can also delete messages sent on Group chats. Here's how: Open WhatsApp and go to the chat containing the message you wish to delete >>
Tap and hold the message >> Optionally, tap more messages to delete multiple messages at once >> Tap Delete at the top of the screen >> Delete for everyone.


  • Permanently delete a Whatsapp Group 
Permanently deleting a WhatsApp group is a trcky thing. You need to remember two things here, one you can only delete a group that you are admin of. Exiting a group that you have created and are admin of does not mean that it has been deleted. To delete such a group, you need to individually remove all the members and then exit from the group.


  • Silence a Whatsapp Group 
This means making a group mute. You can make a group mute for 8 hours, 1 week or 1 year. 'Silencing' a group means that you will no longer have messages popping up all the time from that group. To read chats in the group, you will have to check them individually.

Yes, you can star messages in Group chats too. The 'Starred Messages' feature allows you to bookmark specific messages so that you can quickly refer back to them later. To do this: Tap and hold the message you wish to star >> Tap the Star icon that appears on top of the screen.


  • Add dates to your calendar 
You may be discussing an important meeting in an office group or a friends reunion in another group. It may not always be easy to remember all the dates. Here you have the option to instantly add dates to your calender.

  • You can search inside chats 
Yes, you have the 'search' option in chats. This means that you need not scroll up for the chat you are looking for, just need to enter a keyword from the chat in 'chat search' and all the chats with that keyword will open. These chats will also have the word searched highlighted.



  • You need not be the admin of a group to change its subject or profile image
Any of the group's participants can change its icon or subject. To do so: Go to the group in WhatsApp >> Tap the subject of the group >> Tap the current icon, then tap on Edit on the next screen >> Choose to Take Photo, Choose Photo, or Search Web for a new image.
